PTCL has successfully established the Africa-1 submarine cable in Karachi, representing a significant advancement in the nation’s digital connectivity. This new cable system is set to greatly enhance internet speeds and bolster Pakistan’s connection to the global digital framework.
Boasting an impressive capacity of 96 terabits per second, the Africa-1 cable will link Pakistan with multiple countries, including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt, and France. This enhanced connection will improve data transfer, resulting in faster and more reliable internet services throughout the country. Moreover, it will aid in closing the digital gap by providing better access to online services for both businesses and individuals.
The Africa-1 project is part of a global consortium and aligns with Pakistan’s Digital Vision 2030. By investing in these types of initiatives, PTCL aims to enhance the nation’s digital infrastructure, fostering economic development, education, and innovation.
This marks the second significant submarine cable to arrive in Pakistan in just a few months. Earlier, in December 2024, the Africa-2 cable was successfully deployed. With the introduction of Africa-1, Pakistan now enjoys even greater internet capacity and improved connectivity to worldwide networks.
