Karachi faced intense heat on Saturday as dry and hot winds blew across the city, pushing temperatures above 39°C. A recent western weather system that had moderated temperatures has now diminished, resulting in clear skies and strong sunshine. This alteration in weather has made life harder for the inhabitants.
As reported by the Pakistan Meteorological Department, Karachi reached a peak temperature of 39.1°C, which was 1.6°C higher than the day before. Despite the humidity level being low at 15%, the powerful north-western winds intensified the sensation of heat. The mix of dry winds and elevated temperatures created a challenging environment, particularly for those outdoors.
Meteorologists anticipate that similarly hot weather will persist on Sunday. Residents are urged to take measures to shield themselves from the heat. Staying well-hydrated, wearing light clothing, and avoiding direct sunlight during the hottest hours are all advised.
Karachi is accustomed to extreme temperatures, but such conditions can still pose risks, especially for children, seniors, and individuals with health issues. Officials suggest minimizing outdoor activities when possible and keeping cool by using fans, air conditioning, or other cooling methods.
As summer heatwaves become increasingly common, it is crucial for individuals to care for themselves and watch out for those who may lack access to cooling resources.
